State Board members attended the National Association of State Boards of Accountancy (NASBA) annual meeting in San Diego, CA on October 30-November 2. They were joined by Jimmy Burkes who served on the Mississippi State Board for fifteen years and is now serving at the national level.

       Willie B. Sims, Jr. of Hattiesburg was elected Southeast Regional Director at the annual meeting. Sims is the owner of Willie B. Sims, Jr., CPA, PLLC, a small accounting firm formed in 1994, where he oversees the firm’s day-to- day operations, which include tax and tax planning, audit and assurance and the compliance divisions. Sims is a longtime member of the Mississippi State Board of Public Accountancy and has served on NASBA’s CPE, Diversity, Nominating and Awards Committees as well as its Strategic Planning Task Force.  

Jimmy Burkes will continue as a NASBA At-Large Board member and Board member of the Center for Public Trust. Burkes has served NASBA for many years in various positions including Treasurer. He was the assurance partner for Haddox Reid prior to retiring to Miramar Beach, FL and is a past MSCPA Chairman of the Board
