Governor Reeves makes State Board Appointments
Based on the MSCPA’s recommendations, Governor Reeves has made the following appointments for the 3 At-Large Positions:
William T. (Bill) Kelly of Hattiesburg has been reappointed for a second term. Bill has served on the State Board since 2018 and recently completed a year as Board Chairman. He has 41 years of experience in public accounting practice and is a Senior Tax Partner at TMH, PLLC in Hattiesburg where he also oversees the firm’s accounting and auditing quality control. Bill is a proven leader having served on the MSCPA Board of Governors and as Secretary.
Gary L. Walker has been appointed for his first term. Gary is a partner at Lyle, Walker & Co., P.A. in Ridgeland and resides in Clinton. He has extensive public accounting experience and also worked with the Internal Revenue Service as an audit manager. Gary serves the accounting profession with exemplary character and a demonstrated dedication to fulfilling commitments. He served as MSCPA Liaison to the State Board of Public Accountancy for 13 years where he attended State Board meetings and is very knowledgeable and understands the rules, regulations, and procedures. He is highly respected by State Board members and staff. He has also shown his commitment to the profession in other MSCPA roles and activities and is a past Chairman of the Board.
Charles R. Prince has also been reappointed to a second term having served since 2018 and was elected Board Chairman at their January meeting. On the national level, he serves on the National Association of State Boards of Accountancy’s (NASBA) Peer Review Compliance Committee and was recently elected to the AICPA Peer Review Standards Board as NASBA’s national regulatory representative. Charles is sole member of Prince CPA Firm, PLLC in Magee. He has served in various leadership positions in the MSCPA, including Chairman of the Board and Treasurer, and has been an effective member of several committees. His longest tenure (22 years) was on our Peer Review Committee where he served as chairman for 11 years.
Gary Walker replaces Mark Peach of Madison. MSCPA would like to thank Mark for his 10 years of very dedicated service to the State Board. Mark was first appointed to the State Board in 2013 and served two terms. Mark is now retired from KPMG where he was an assurance partner in the Jackson office and is enjoying his grandchildren and playing golf.
