MSCPA Member Jan Lewis Elected Vice Chair of the AICPA

The Mississippi Society of Certified Public Accountants is proud to announce that longtime member, Jan Lewis, CPA, CGMA was elected as Vice Chair of the Board of Directors of the American Institute of CPAs (AICPA) during AICPA’s Spring Council meeting held in Washington, DC. This national leadership role positions her to become Chair of the AICPA in 2026!

Jan’s election is not only a testament to her decades of professional excellence and service but also a moment of pride for the entire Mississippi accounting community. As a partner with BMSS Advisors & CPAs in Ridgeland, she has consistently demonstrated leadership and integrity while serving clients, mentoring professionals, and shaping the future of the profession.

“Jan is a tremendous leader and a true ambassador for Mississippi CPAs on the national stage,” said Karen Moody, President/CEO of the MSCPA. “Her election reflects the respect she has earned across the country and the lasting impact she continues to make on the profession.”

Jan has been actively involved in the AICPA throughout her career, volunteering on numerous committees and task forces and has held many leadership roles, including Chair of the Tax Practice and Procedures Committee and the Tax Executive Committee. In May 2023, Jan began a three-year term on the AICPA’s Board of Directors. Her new role as Vice Chair will allow her to help guide the future of the accounting profession at a pivotal time, while championing innovation and sustainability in a rapidly changing business environment.

A dynamic and well-respected speaker, Jan has taught continuing professional education classes for the Society and throughout Mississippi and nationwide for many years on tax and business matters and has given presentations on financial literacy, current tax policy, and other tax matters to various groups across the state. She has also authored tax articles and has been interviewed by Fox Business News, NPR, Forbes, Wall Steet Journal, Bloomberg, and the Detroit Free Press for her insight on various policy and practice matters affecting taxpayers.

Jan is a valued and active member of the MSCPA, having served as President (now Chairman) in 2008-2009 and left a lasting legacy by forming the Young CPA Network to bring together the next generations of accountants to insure the future of the Society. She had previously served as Treasurer and as an officer of the Central Chapter, as well as a trustee of the Mississippi Tax Institute. She also completed a three-year term as the MSCPA elected representative to the AICPA Council. Jan is currently a member of the Long-Range Planning Committee and the Young CPA Liaison Committee.
