Governor Reeves Appoints Jim Burkes to State Board
On the recommendation of the MSCPA, Governor Tate Reeves has appointed Jim Burkes to fill the unexpired term for the 2nd Congressional District seat formerly held by David Bridgers on the Mississippi State Board of Public Accountancy. The term runs until December 31, 2026.
Burkes brings a record of prior dedicated service and experience to the Board. He previously served three full terms ending in 2017, including service as Secretary, Vice Chair, and Chair. During that time, he played a key role in advancing licensure mobility through his work on the Rules and Regulations Committee and the Joint Mobility Task Force.
In addition to his state-level service, Burkes has an extensive history with the National Association of State Boards of Accountancy (NASBA), where he held numerous leadership roles, including Director at Large, Southeast Regional Director, and Chair of several key committees. His contributions were recognized with the NASBA Distinguished Service Award in 2024. This experience provides him with a strong understanding of both national trends and regulatory best practices affecting the accounting profession.
Burkes is a retired Compliance/Assurance partner with Haddox Reid Eubank Betts PLLC. He has demonstrated a longstanding commitment to the profession through leadership roles with the MSCPA where he served as President and Board member, chaired several key committees, and represented Mississippi on AICPA Council. His commitment also includes meaningful service to civic and nonprofit organizations, all of which earned him the MSCPA Public Service Award.
